Dhanush's 'Raayan' has added a new feather to its success cap at the box office. The film has now emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil entertainer of the year, after surpassing the lifetime total of 'Indian 2' domestically.
The Kamal Haasan-starrer collected Rs 81.31 crore nett in its lifetime run earlier this year. 'Raayan' has gone past this figure in 13 days with a total nett collection of Rs 82.25 crore, reported the trade website Sacnilk.

- Week 1: Rs 60.1 crore
- Friday: Rs 3 crore
- Saturday: Rs 6.25 crore
- Sunday: Rs 6.7 crore

- Total: Rs 82.25 crore
Earlier, the film surpassed 'Maharaja' to become the second highest-grossing Tamil film of the year. The Vijay Sethupathi-starrer collected Rs 72.1 crore nett in its overall run domestically, and 'Raayan' went past this number in 10 days. At the worldwide box office, it is running at Rs 130 crore gross, inching closer to beating 'Indian 2', which grossed Rs 148.81 crore gross in its lifetime run.
'Raayan' has already achieved the biggest record for the Tamil film industry this year, and whatever it earns from here is going to be a bonus. It is Dhanush's 50th film and has already become his biggest hit at the ticket window. The film is on its way to slowly reaching the Rs 100 crore nett-mark at the domestic box office.
Directed and written by the actor, it has got this week's window to perform smoothly before many anticipated Independence Day releases start taking over the screens from next week. This includes 'Thangalaan', 'Raghuthatha', 'Double iSmart' and 'Mr Bachchan' in the south market, and 'Stree 2', 'Vedaa' and 'Khel Khel Mein' in the north.
